It has and will continue to be a sad time for San Francisco, the music world, and the many friends and family who knew DJ Solomon. His life was tragically taken yesterday while in Thailand in a car accident, and to everyone it is both shocking and heartbreaking. It is something that no one would ever think could happen to someone they know or care about, but as most of us come to realize, you must appreciate your life and the people in it because each and every moment is a gift.
Although I did not know DJ Solomon well, he has and will always be a well respected DJ and music legend, especially in the Bay Area, where he created a huge name for himself. To quote his style from his website, his " specialty is something he always called “Pop Turntablism.” It’s a niche of music that fuses scratching, beat juggling, word play, and live remixing with an eclectic mix of funk, soul, hip hop, house and rock tracks. It’s a genre now popularly known as the mashup, and within this community, Solomon shines."
I was lucky enough to see him play at numerous events and functions in San Francisco including Giants games, industry events, and the hottest clubs in town. I can honestly say he knows how to engage a crowd and keep the partying going all night long. He has created great music and I know that DJs today will continued to be inspired by his talent.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his friends, family and fiancee Nicole. RIP DJ Solomon. SF loves you and keep doing what you did best... just up in the sky :)
